The Community Climate Action Network
This network offers a number of free services to climate-focused community groups in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. All of the services we offer have been chosen in consultation with the local community.
Currently we offer:
- Monthly E-Bulletins packed full of the latest local and national news on tackling climate change, peak oil and energy issues. To subscribe email your name and the name of any local community group you belong to to ccan@mea.org.uk. Back issues can be read here.
- Online Profiles for groups. This is an easy way for your group to have an online presence, without the need to maintain your own website. See existing profiles here. If you would like your group to have a profile please complete the attached form and send it to: ccan@mea.org.uk.
- Online Case Studies of local activity. Need inspiration? Look no further than our community case studies’ section which showcases the work of local projects with the twin aims of inspiring others and publicising the great work of local groups. If you would like to add a case study about your own group’s project, please fill in the attached form and send it to: ccan@mea.org.uk.
- Ask Me a Climate Question Service. This popular service, for groups which are big on ideas but short on time, is explained in more detail below.
- Workshops. We are organising two free workshops this year (April 11- March 12). The first focused on Domestic Energy Efficiency and took place in August 2011 at the Derbyshire Eco Centre. The second will focus on Domestic Renewable Energy and will take place at Derby College on 2nd February 2012. A leaflet with more details can be found at the bottom of this webpage. To book a free place email you name, postal address and the name of any community group you belong to, to ccan@mea.org.uk.
- Study Tours. We are organising two free study tours to the Creative Home Energy Project in Nottingham this year. The second will take place on 7th March 2012. A leaflet with more details can be found below. To book a free place email you name, postal address and the name of any community group you belong to, to ccan@mea.org.uk.
- In September and October we organised two Low Carbon Planning events as part of the Climate Skills Fund: one in Matlock and one in Newark. View presentations from the events here. The events were based on Plan Local materials. Useful local material can also be found on the Planning for Climate Change website.
Ask Me a Climate Question?'
For community groups which are big on ideas, but short on time to research those ideas.
This free service allows community groups based in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to ask Marches Energy Agency - a regional charity - to carry out a couple of hours of research on your behalf for free.
Groups can send us an enquiry about a project they want to set up or a topic they want to learn more about. We will do the research and signpost them to resources, websites and courses as well as other community groups they might want to work with or learn from. No question is too easy or too hard and we aim to respond within 10 working days. Email questions and enquiries to ccan@mea.org.uk or call 07748 508704.
Examples of previous enquires can be seen in the attached document.
Useful Organisations and Websites
We’ve put together a list of organisations, groups and websites on the pages in this secton that you might find helpful when you’re setting up a low carbon community group, or getting your existing community group to ‘go green’.
These organisations can offer a wide range of advice, information and support: help with recruiting members, advice on funding a community owned wind-turbine; information about composting, talks on energy efficiency; ideas for film screenings, and much more.
Remember, though; you are potentially doing something really quite pioneering. It might be that you are the first person or first group to tackle a specific challenge, or to implement a particular solution. You might have to make things up as you go along, and you could even find that you’ve become the expert…
