Creative Home Energy Project

Creative Home Energy ProjectThe project is a research and educational showcase of innovative state-of-the-art energy efficient homes built by the Department of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Nottingham. Seven homes on the University Park have been designed and constructed to various degrees of innovation and flexibility to allow the testing of different aspects of construction including layout and form, cladding materials, roof structures, foundations, glazing materials, thermal performance, building services systems, sustainable / renewable energy technologies, lighting systems, acoustics and water supply. The project aims to stimulate sustainable design ideas and promote new ways of providing affordable, environmentally sustainable housing that are innovative in their design. The homes are fully instrumented and occupied in order to provide comprehensive post occupancy evaluation data.

One home is a replica 1930’s house, subsequently updated to show how retrofit measures can improve a home’s energy efficiency (pictured). Another aims to be as eco-friendly as possible, but also affordable. A third reflects an aim to build an energy efficient masonry home that can be mass produced. You will be able to go inside some of the houses and observe others from the outside.

There is a cost of £4 per person for this guide tour.
