Elm Avenue

A detached Edwardian home (with a 1970' extension) in a conservation area. The owners have installed a number of both low and high tech measures, including both cheap and more expensive measures:

•    Double-glazing with custom-made wooden frames to match the original windows as closely as possible; plus roller blinds to conserve heat at night [heat conservation].
•    Solid wall internal insulation (up to 10 cm thick) in some rooms (4 on show) [heat conservation].
•    Grey water system for flushing 2 toilets, using rainwater held in a large tank (ca. 3-4000 litre) under drive [water and energy saving].
•    Solar PV panels with independent control of the individual panels to maximize output [electricity generation].
•    Some LED lighting (better illumination than compact fluorescent) [energy saving].
•    Heat-exchanging ventilation fans, reducing heat loss [heat conservation].

We hope the builder who carried out the double glazing and insulation work will attend for at least part of the time to explain technical details. We will also have some off-cuts of the insulation material for inspection, plus photos of the work in progress.
