Introduction to Solar Energy Course & Self-Guided Tour of the Derbyshire Eco Centre

Hear about the options available to add solar energy technoloiges to building projects at home.

You can also do a self-guided tour of the Derbytshire Eco Centre during your lunch break using laminated information sheets and display boards placed around the building. The building has been constructed using sustainable methods, materials and technologies including local stone, a living green roof, rainwater harvesting, air source heat pump and solar panels. The centre and the surrounding landscape were built to gain an 'excellent' standard from the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Measure. A second phase is planned to provide further sustainable technologies with the aim of making the site self sufficient in energy. The building is the county hub for courses and activities focusing on education for sustainable development. It supports Derbyshire County Council’s work to address climate change issues, promotes creativity through the arts, and teaches skills to help conserve the natural world and to live healthy lifestyles. The centre is an all–weather facility to deliver heritage building skills, sustainable technologies, rural crafts, arts, environment and energy saving courses.
