Torrs Hydro, New Mills

Torrs Hydro is a community-owned hydro-electric plant. Clean, green energy is generated by river water flowing through our reverse Archimedes screw “Archie” and sold to the local Co-op supermarket. The project is owned by 230 shareholders.

Directions: There is a path down into the Torrs Riverside Park from New Mills Bus Station and another from New Mills Central train station. New Mills Newtown train station is a short walk away. Parking at Torr Top car park is free for the first hour, and 50p/hour thereafter. Torrs Riverside Park is in a picturesque gorge below the town and sensible footwear is needed.
