Campaign on Rewilding the Matlock Wolds as an Alternative to building 430 new Home

In response to long standing environmental concerns about a new housing development in Matlock, The Wolds Action Group recently commissioned an independent and detailed wildlife and flood risk report. This report was submitted to Derbyshire Dales District Council, the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, and the Members of the District Planning Committee.

The report highlights the threat to wildlife and biodiversity and raises the possibility of rewilding it instead. The report contains the first comprehensive species list for this site, many of which are legally protected.

Dr Stephen Martin (The Wolds Action Group) said “In contrast the evidence provided so far, by the Developer, is both partial and incomplete and hence provides no basis for assessing the loss of biodiversity arising from their proposed development.

We would ask the Local Planning Authority to seriously reconsider whether this site is a fit one for such a major development...”
