Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill (CEE Bill)

A year after the UK declared a climate emergency, a new Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill (CEE Bill) has been launched which demands that the UK government brings the urgent action needed to mitigate the climate and ecological crisis into law. It will be put before parliament if it receives enough support.

The Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill calls for the UK government to:

  • Create a proper plan to reduce our real fair share of carbon emissions;

  • Calculate our entire carbon footprint, including import and export emissions;

  • Protect, conserve, and restore nature here and overseas;

  • Reduce reliance on future carbon capture technologies which is used as an excuse to carry on polluting;

  • And form a “Citizens Assembly” so people can have a say in the way forward.

The CEE Bill was written with contributions by respected climate, energy, and ecology academics, alongside a lead author of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report. The Bill also has the backing of Extinction Rebellion and Volans, a business sustainability firm.
