Want to get rid of your current boiler but unsure what a heat pump entails? This short course will take you through everything you need to know about air-source heat pumps, from designing systems, to procurement of contractors, to understanding the installation process. It requires no prior technical knowledge.

HVCA has re-arranged a meeting with Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, who was unable to join them at their 'general' meeting earlier in the month as planned. This will take place this Friday, 26th June, at 7.30pm on Zoom.

He will be talk briefly about his views on climate change and there will be a chance to ask him questions afterwards.  If you would like to ask a question, please email Jeremy Wight (jeremywight73@gmail.com) in advance*.  HVCA will prioritise questions submitted in advance, but there may be time for impromptu questions too.

If you would like Mr Largan to know of your question in advance (so that he has time to prepare a more considered reply), please let HVCA know when submitting your question.

Air source heat pumps are increasingly being seen as a key technology for homes in the energy transition. But large scale rollout of heat pumps in an owner occupier context in the UK is relatively rare. 

In this webinar designed for policy makers, practitioners, designers and installers, Paul Kenny of Tipperary Energy Agency and Superhomes discusses the lessons learnt from their Irish roll out programme. The webinar will include an assessment of performance data which forms part of the Superhomes 2.0 evaluation conducted with Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).

Paul will also be discussing Tipperary Energy Agency’s new distance learning module on heat pumps that he has authored.

Power Up Online: Empower yourself with skills to win campaigns through planning

This free online training programme, led by experienced Planner Naomi Luhde-Thompson, aims to explain how you can use the planning system to help protect your local environment and to campaign for green development. It will outline your rights under the planning system, and how you can successfully influence planning decisions to win your campaign.

The programme will consist of 6 weekly modules. Each module will consist of:

  • An online 90 minute Zoom call including presentations, films and an opportunity to ask questions.
  • A follow-on online discussion forum on Slack 
  • For some modules, a dedicated, region specific Zoom online surgery to discuss regional campaigns and local plans.

These will run:

  • Every Friday evening, 6pm – 7:30pm  
  • Repeated every Saturday mornings, 10am - 11:30am 

You need to attend 1 session each week, either Friday evening or Saturday morning. You are able to change your choice during the course.

If they are over-subscribed, they will prioritise individuals and groups that are currently under-represented and disadvantaged in the planning process.

  • A follow up on our meeting last month
  • An informal opportunity to ‘meet’ with people from other climate change-focused community groups in the Nottingham/Nottinghamshire/Derby/Derbyshire area.
  • A chance to hear about what other community groups are doing
  • An opportunity to talk about what support you might want from the Community Climate Action Network in the next few months (while life is very different to normal) and in the future. This could be more Zoom meetings, more content on our website or something else.

We are running regular monthly Zoom meetings to give community groups a chance to informally meet and share ideas. Our next Zoom meeting will be on Wednesday 17th June from 7pm till 8pm. As usual, this will also be an opportunity to let us know what support you would like from us.
